Imagine that you have pulled your car to a stop, and that you hear a pounding bass sound coming from the car next to you. You might become envious of that car owner, and you might think that he or she has obtained a top quality subwoofer box. Quality sound does indicate quality construction, but quality sound does not always produce evidence of superior and unmatched box quality.
An awareness of that fact becomes extremely important whenever someone is buying a subwoofer box. When one decides to purchase a subwoofer box, then one needs to consider several different box characteristics. First of all one must realize that the subwoofer box does not come fully assembled. The purchaser must perform the final steps of the assembly process. The purchaser of a subwoofer box should therefore seek a box that can be easily assembled. After all, even a top quality subwoofer box will fail to produce quality sound, if it has not been assembled properly.
The purchaser of a subwoofer box should also remember that “bigger is not always better.” A subwoofer enclosed in a huge box does not necessarily represent the characteristics of a quality subwoofer box. Subwoofer boxes have changed in much the same way as every other piece of electronic equipment. Technology experts have found a way to insure sound quality, while at the same time limiting the size of the typical subwoofer box.
One final item to consider before purchasing a subwoofer box is power handling. A quality subwoofer box responds well to the strong and transient power that surges into the box structure. A proper response to that power leads to the demonstration of quality performance, i.e. the delivery of quality sound.
Some enterprising car owners decide to build rather than buy a subwoofer box. All of the owners who have made that decision can build quality subwoofer boxes, if they first obtain quality materials. Their boxes should enclose the subwoofer in composite wood; that type of wood provides the strength that is associated with box quality. The wood sections should be fastened together with wood glue and 1.5″ drywall screws.
As long as a car owner keeps the above considerations in mind, then that car owner should have the ability to either buy or build a quality subwoofer box.
